Flutterby Feet...

Thursday, Hayden brought a mysterious envelope home from school. He spoke to me in a serious semi-hushed tone, "Shhhh, Mommy. It's a surprise! It is YOUR Mother's Day present and you cannot open it yet. I will tell you when it is time. It will be on SUNDAY!"

He had pointed out a covered up area in the classroom on several occasions and explained that it was a surprise. A four year olds version of secret keeping is soooo entertaining. I shall be quite put out when this particular phase passes as it is such fun to share in his less than discreet enthusiasm for the whole process. Here's is a peek at the envelope: Naturally after all of this build up I was quite looking forward to opening my envelope this morning. But first let's all take a moment to marvel at Hayden writing "MOM" on the envelope. That alone made my heart smile. Learning to write his letters is a huge struggle for Hayden and this represents a great deal of effort on his part. He was very proud of this and so was I!

And then came the treasure stored inside....

I knew that there had been feet painting involved (more stellar secret keeping from the boy) but had no idea how precious his rumored rainbow feet would be. I cannot wait to frame this and have it up in the house.

In case it is difficult to read: "This is to remind you when I've grown so tall...That once I was quite little and my feet were very small. "

Happy Mother's Day to Me! And of course, a big thanks to all of the Mother's working at Hayden's preschool who take time to help the kids learn about gift giving.
