Pattern Blocks In Orbit

June 8, 2010
A few years ago I was fortunate to nab a nice set of pattern blocks and coordinating pictures at our neighborhood yard sale. This past summer, H got a new plan in his head that did not involve completing the pattern block pictures. The snapshot above is H's pattern block solar system. The yellow hexagons on the left are grouped as the sun and then the planets follow in order from there. Little Mercury, a yellow Venus, blue diamonds for the Earth, a red trapezoid Mars, a deluxe orange square Jupiter with a red trapezoid detail, yellow saturn surrounded by a blue diamond ring, green Uranus and a blue Neptune. Not a bad use of yard sale gear!
Of course, Hayden took time to explain each piece to me as we snapped pics. Once his creation had been captured on camera, he was ready to demolish it and start in on a few spiral galaxies. he specified that the blue galaxy was the Milky Way and the red one was Andromeda. Please note that they are spiraling toward eachother; in the humble opinion of my favorite spaceman, this was an important point.
