A few months ago I clipped a recipe out of Good Housekeeping for making your own cocoa mix. It is quite likely less expensive than store bought packets and while not low in sugar is happily missing the additives that come with packaging. We have a little tradition of doing cooking projects when my dear neices and nephew come to visit. Aubrey Anne and I whipped this one up for the whole clan over Christmas vacation and it was a big hit. I really enjoy that it is a strong chocolate flavor rather than the sweeter leanings of store bought cocoa. With the Mini Marx's holed up with germiness I thought that would be a fun and easy project to complete today. I measured things out beforehand and then let Hayden help me pour so that he could be involved but keep his cooties (typed with love) to himself. A tasty time was had by all!
Here's the recipe:
Cocoa Mix
1 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 1/4 cup sugar
6 oz. coarsely chopped semisweet chocolate
In food processor, with knife blade attached, blend cocoa, sugar, chocolate and 1/4 teaspoon salt until almost smooth. Store in tightly sealed container at room temperature up to six months. Makes about 3 1/2 cups.
For each serving, mix 3 tablespoons cocoa mix with 1 cup milk and heat.
Yummy!
Great recipe! I cannot wait to try it. charlotte must have heard us talking about it, because she has been asking for warm hot chocolate for the past hour :)
