Defying Gravity

Long ago, in a galaxy just upstairs, Hayden gave up his nap. We stumbled into what I now call quiet time. As a Mommy in search of a midday break with a kid who still needed some form of downtime this seemed to work for us and overall still does. By the beginning of February, we had done enough reading about space for H to have a beginners sense of gravity and it's role amongst the planets and their moons. So one afternoon he jettisoned the better part of his toy collection and created an immense amount of space debris. At the center of this interstellar mess you can spy a dark red ball that may look familiar to some. It is the salt dough clay Jupiter that we made, baked and painted in January. Fortunately, it occured to me to put a clear coat on that gas giant puppy and it has really hung in there.
At any rate, on the afternoon of February 1st, worlds were colliding in H's lair. Lightning McQueen was racing through space and was temporarily caught up in the gravitational pull of Jupiter. Fortunately the stars smiled upon this little racing upstart and Lightning was able to boost his powers to break free of Jupiters grasp and continue on his galactic journey. The remaining hordes of toys were not so fortunate and can be seen trapped by Jupiter's gravity destined to orbit the afternoon away until Daddy returned home and helped with cleanup.
What a handsome, happy spaceman!

  1. What a marvelous combining together of the astronomical process of planetary accretion and the equally important boyhood phenomenon of toy-based traffic jams. I highly approve!
